UK Visa and Immigration

The United Kingdom is one of the most popular immigration destinations in the world for people looking to live and work in a new country.

However, the immigration system in the United Kingdom is limited. Following the outcome of the EU referendum on June 23, 2016, and the decision to exit the EU, the UK visa system has undergone further adjustments. The UK Innovator visa and UK Start-Up visa schemes were recently created.

In many situations, you must apply through the UK tier points-based immigration system, which assesses applicants against a variety of factors to determine their eligibility for a UK work or study visa.

The majority of work-related visa applications, such as the Tier 2 visa programme, and Tier 4 study visa applications are accepted.

Since 2010, the UK government has implemented a number of changes to UK immigration legislation in attempt to restrict immigration to the UK, particularly from countries outside the EEA.

Tier Visas in the United Kingdom

The tier visa system in the United Kingdom consists of the following:

Tier 1 Visa: This visa category is for 'high-value migrants' from outside the EU, and it includes the £2 million Tier 1 investment visa scheme, as well as the extremely few people who qualify for the Tier 1 extraordinary talent visa and Tier 1 Exceptional Promise visa.

The Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa scheme was superseded by the UK Innovator visa scheme on March 29, 2019.

Tier 2 Visa: This category is for'skilled employees' from outside the EEA who have a job offer from a Tier 2 Sponsor in the UK. It includes skilled workers transferred to the UK by an overseas company using the Tier 2 Intra-Company Transfer visa route, skilled workers in areas where there is a documented shortage in the UK, ministers of religion, and athletes.

Tier 3 Visa: This category was created to accommodate low-skilled workers who are filling certain temporary labour needs.

So date, no visas have been issued under this plan by the government. Unfortunately, this means you will be unable to apply for the Tier 3 visa scheme.

Tier 4 Visa: This category is for students from outside the European Economic Area who want to study in the United Kingdom. Before applying, applicants must have a place at a registered UK educational establishment.

Tier 5 Visa: This category includes six sub-tiers of temporary workers, including artistic and sporting employees, charitable workers, religious workers, and the youth mobility scheme, which allows about 55,000 young people to work in the UK on working holidays each year.

Other types of UK visas

Most work, study, and investment visas are covered by the UK tier visa system. However, visiting visas, family visas, and some UK business visas are not included in the five classes.

UK Business Visas: This section discusses a variety of long-term business visas that do not fit under the UK visa tier system.
